* Severe Thunderstorm Warning for…
Southeastern Butte County in northwestern South Dakota…
Central Meade County in west central South Dakota…

* Until 745 PM MDT.

* At 647 PM MDT, a severe thunderstorm was located near Owl Butte, or
29 miles northeast of Sturgis, moving southeast at 45 mph.

THIS IS A DESTRUCTIVE STORM FOR NEWELL, OWL BUTTE, UNION CENTER.

HAZARD…90 mph wind gusts and two inch hail.

SOURCE…Automated observations.

IMPACT…You are in a life-threatening situation. Flying debris may
be deadly to those caught without shelter. Mobile homes
will be heavily damaged or destroyed. Homes and businesses
will have substantial roof and window damage. Expect
extensive tree damage and power outages.

* Locations impacted include…
Newell, Union Center, Plainview, Enning, Fairpoint, Stoneville,
Hereford, Red Owl, Mud Butte, White Owl, Marcus, Owl Butte, Curlew
Lake, Viewfield, Dears Ears Butte and Newell Lake.

Instructions

Seek shelter now inside an interior room on the lowest floor of a
well-built structure. This storm has produced widespread destructive
winds and is capable of producing dangerous hail.

This is a dangerous situation with winds expected to produce damage
similar to a tornado. Move to an interior room on the lowest floor of
a well-built structure. Mobile homes and high profile vehicles are at
an enhanced risk for damage.

Continuous cloud to ground lightning is occurring with this storm.
Lightning is one of nature’s leading killers. Remember, if you can
hear thunder, you are close enough to be struck by lightning.
