Details
At 828 PM CDT, Doppler radar was tracking strong thunderstorms along
a line extending from near Urbana to Newhall. Movement was east at
40 mph.
HAZARD…Wind gusts up to 50 mph and minor flooding.
SOURCE…Radar indicated.
IMPACT…Strong winds could break small tree limbs and blow around
unsecured objects. Slowing or redirecting of traffic due to
ponding or flowing water. Closure of waterfront access due
to flooding.
Locations impacted include…
Cedar Rapids, Marion, Hiawatha, Mount Vernon, Robins, Center Point,
Lisbon, Fairfax, Atkins, Urbana, Central City, Springville, Palo,
Shellsburg, Walker, Alburnett, Coggon, Bertram, Prairieburg, and
Toddville.
This includes Interstate 380 between mile markers 17 and 45.
Instructions
If outdoors, consider seeking shelter inside a building.
Torrential rainfall is occurring and may lead to localized flooding.
Do not drive your vehicle through flooded roadways.
Frequent cloud to ground lightning is occurring with these storms.
Lightning can strike 10 miles away from a thunderstorm. Seek a safe
shelter inside a building or vehicle.
A Severe Thunderstorm Watch remains in effect until 900 PM CDT for
northeastern and east central Iowa.
