Details

* WHAT…Low lying, urban area, and small stream flooding caused by
excessive rainfall is expected.

* WHERE…A portion of central Iowa, including the following
counties, Dallas, Jasper and Polk.

* WHEN…Until 515 PM CDT Friday.

* IMPACTS…Flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying
and flood-prone locations is imminent or occurring. Streams
continue to rise due to excess runoff from earlier rainfall.
Expect many areas of slow moving or standing water. Fourmile Creek
is also above flood stage, including at NE 86th Avenue in Ankeny
as of 5 am.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS…
– At 511 AM CDT, Doppler radar and automated rain gauges
indicated heavy rain due to thunderstorms. Flooding is
ongoing or expected to begin shortly in the warned area.
Between 4 and 9 inches of rain have fallen with isolated
amounts nearing 10 inches.
– This flood warning replaces the flash flood warning for Polk
and Jasper Counties.
– Some locations that will experience flooding include…
Des Moines, West Des Moines, Ankeny, Urbandale, Johnston,
Clive, Newton, Altoona, Waukee, Pleasant Hill, Grimes,
Windsor Heights, Carlisle, Bondurant, Polk City, Saylorville,
Mitchellville, Colfax, Monroe and Prairie City.
