* WHAT…Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected.

* WHERE…Southern Jewell County in north central Kansas…
Western Mitchell County in north central Kansas…
Eastern Osborne County in north central Kansas…
Southeastern Smith County in north central Kansas…

* WHEN…Until 1215 PM CDT Thursday.

* IMPACTS…Flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying
and flood-prone locations is imminent or occurring.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS…
– At 522 PM CDT, Doppler radar and automated rain gauges indicated
that a few rounds of moderate to heavy rain since early this
morning has dumped as much as 2-5 inches across much of the area,
with the overall-highest amounts over central and southwestern
Jewell County. At least minor/nuisance flooding of various rural
roads and low-lying areas is likely to occur, and was confirmed
to have occurred earlier today in Jewell County by emergency
management. At least portions of the Warning area could receive
at least another 1-2 inches before rain eases up later this
evening, and additional rain could fall during the day Thursday
before rain completely ends for several days. Area creeks and
rivers will also experience at least noticeable within-bank
rises, but actual flooding of main rivers is less certain.

This areal Flood Warning effectively replaces the previously-
issued Warning valid until 9 PM this evening for southern Jewell
County.

Browns Creek, Fourmile Creek, Middle Limestone Creek,
Disappointment Creek, Little Oak Creek, East Fork Big Timber
Creek, Frog Creek, Ash Creek, East Fork Wolf Creek, Mill Creek,
Middle Buffalo Creek, East Kill Creek, Bacon Creek, Indian Creek,
Salt Creek, West Buffalo Creek, Dry Creek, White Rock Creek, Elm
Creek, Lovewell Reservoir Area, East Buffalo Creek, Kill Creek,
Antelope Creek, Twin Creek, West Limestone Creek, Covert Creek
and Oak Creek.

Instructions

Turn around, don’t drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.

Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the
dangers of flooding.
