The National Weather Service in El Paso Tx/Santa Teresa has issued a

* Flash Flood Warning for…
Southeastern Dona Ana County in south central New Mexico…
Southwestern Otero County in south central New Mexico…
Northwestern El Paso County in western Texas…

* Until 545 PM MDT.

* At 410 PM MDT, Torrential rain showers have been moving north
across the lower Mesilla Valley, the west slopes of the Franklin
Mountains, and portions of the far southern Tularosa Basin. The
heaviest rainfall has been just east of Berino, Anthony, Vinton,
and Canutillo.

HAZARD…Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms.

SOURCE…Radar indicated.

IMPACT…Flash flooding of arroyos, urban areas, highways, streets
and underpasses as well as other poor drainage and
low-lying areas.

* Some locations that will experience flash flooding include…
Northwest El Paso, Chaparral, Anthony, Vado, Anthony Gap, Berino,
Canutillo, Westway, Vinton and Mesquite.

Arroyos and low water crossings in Franklin Mountains State Park may
become too dangerous to cross, including in the Tom Mays Unit.

Instructions

Turn around, don’t drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.

Remain alert for flooding even in locations not receiving rain.
Arroyos, streams, and rivers can become raging killer currents in a
matter of minutes, even from distant rainfall.
