The National Weather Service in Springfield has issued a

* Severe Thunderstorm Warning for…
Southeastern Cherokee County in southeastern Kansas…
Newton County in southwestern Missouri…
Southern Jasper County in southwestern Missouri…

* Until midnight CDT.

* At 1053 PM CDT, severe thunderstorms were located along a line
extending from 6 miles northeast of Carthage to 6 miles northwest
of Baxter Springs to 8 miles south of Edna, moving southeast at 60
mph.

HAZARD…70 mph wind gusts and penny size hail.

SOURCE…Radar indicated. Multiple reports of wind gusts up to 70
mph have been received with this line of storms.

IMPACT…Expect considerable tree damage. Damage is likely to
mobile homes, roofs, and outbuildings.

* Locations impacted include…
Joplin, Carthage, Neosho, Webb City, Baxter Springs, Galena,
Seneca, Granby, Carterville, Duquesne, Sarcoxie, Duenweg, Diamond,
Loma Linda, Airport Drive, Leawood, Lowell, Silver Creek, Fairview,
and Shoal Creek Drive.

This includes Interstate 44 between mile markers 0 and 31.

Instructions

This is a DANGEROUS SITUATION. These storms are producing widespread
wind damage across southeast Kansas and extreme southwest Missouri.
SEEK SHELTER NOW inside a sturdy structure and stay away from
windows! Torrential rainfall is occurring with these storms, and may
lead to flash flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded
roadways.
