The National Weather Service in Springfield has issued a
* Flash Flood Warning for…
Lawrence County in southwestern Missouri…
* Until 545 AM CDT Sunday.
* At 1132 PM CDT, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing
heavy rain across the warned area. Between 1 and 2.5 inches of
rain have fallen. The expected rainfall rate is 1 to 2.5 inches in
1 hour. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly.
HAZARD…Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms.
SOURCE…Radar.
IMPACT…Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban
areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as
other poor drainage and low-lying areas.
* Some locations that will experience flash flooding include…
Monett, Aurora, Mount Vernon, Marionville, Pierce City, Verona,
Stotts City, Freistatt, La Russell, Hoberg and Chesapeake.
This includes the following low water crossings…
Center Creek at County Road 2220, Turnback Creek at County Road
2100, Spring River at County Road 2110 and North Fork Clear Creek
at Nellie Avenue.
Instructions
Turn around, don’t drown when encountering flooded roads. Many flood
deaths occur in vehicles.
Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the
dangers of flooding.
